Grace and peace to you. It is almost five months into my position as Executive Director at Anew Day, and I marvel daily at the incredible people who built this organization and continue to enhance its effectiveness and impact. Anew Day’s founders, the original Lay Counselors, alongside countless volunteers, graduate Trainees, Associates working toward licensure, licensed clinicians, Clinical Supervisors, Clinical Directors, Executive Directors, Board members, and so many generous donors like you, have created this ministry that reduces suffering in our community and saves lives. Anew Day's people respond with total commitment to our mission to meet the needs of those facing emotional and mental health challenges in this community. I am honored to serve alongside those who have given and sacrificed so much to make Anew Day what it is today.
Before joining Anew Day, I believed I would feel welcome here due to the organization’s strong volunteer base. An organization that achieves so much with mostly volunteers is truly special. I looked forward to working alongside fellow Christians committed to a clear mission. However, I was unprepared for the depth of commitment I have encountered or the profound motivation behind it.
In discussions with both our Lay and Professional counselors, a recurring theme I came across was the unique nature of empathy at Anew Day. Empathetic caregiving involves connecting with clients and understanding their worldviews and struggles, but our counselors’ beliefs transform empathy into a journey with clients. Anew Day’s distinct approach to empathy makes perfect sense, as God's love is the center of our practitioners' lives and the heartbeat of this organization, guiding us to love others unconditionally, “…just as Christ loved us…” (Ephesians 5:2). When our counselors journey with their clients during each session, they are responding to Paul’s exhortation to "Bear one another’s burdens..." (Galatians 6:2).
Anew day remains committed to our mission and will continue to journey with our clients and this community. Thank you for being such an integral part of Anew Day and the impact we have.
As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, may His peace and joy dwell deeply within you and your loved ones this Christmas and into the New Year.
